FAQs

There are new keyword research tools launching and relaunching every week. It's really hard to keep up.

We get alot of emails from our readers asking for tips, techniques and tools that we're yet to write about. So while we're busy testing and reporting, we've also created a list to cover the most popular questions.

Q:   Is keyword research data accurate?
A:    Good question! And the answer is no!

Why?    Keyword research is far from an exact science. Research tools report their data from only samples of the total number of searches that are made worldwide.

No tool has access to 100% of the Internet's search data. This is something worthwhile reminding yourself, regularly.

Jay wrote and more indepth answer to this very question. You can read it here.

Q:   Should I pay for a keyword research tool when there are so many free tools available?
A:     Yes.

Why?    We're asked this question a lot. And it is getting harder to answer with bigger and better free tools becoming available all the time.

It really depends on your skill level and how serious your research is. But most of the paid tools use bigger data sets and have greater toolsets to research with.

This article will  shed more light on this question.

Q:   Have you tested Site Build It, and do you recommend it?
A:     We sure have, and we sure do.

Q:    What is KEI and is it reliable?
A:     KEI stands for stands for Keyword Effectiveness Index. It is very similar to R/S. Both measurements are certainly useful but fundamentally flawed.

Why?     Because both KEI and R/S assume that the number of pages on the Internet for a given keyword is a reliable measure of competition. In reality, it doesn’t matter how many competing pages you are up against.
